IRGC arrests members, militiamen in Syria for ‘treason’ over ‘communicating with foreign parties’: report

Iran’s ‘Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps’ (IRGC) has reportedly arrested a number of its own personnel, along with Afghan, Pakistani and other members of its affiliated proxy militias in Syria, for treason on charges of “communicating with foreign parties”.

Independent news agency Syria TV reported that IRGC members and militiamen were arrested in the early hours of Thursday (December 3, 2020) in Albu Kamal in Deir Ezzor governorate, on the Syrian-Iraqi border; the city is currently controlled by Iranian regime forces and affiliated militias.

Regime insiders report Republican Palace tensions that are difficult to "patch up"

Syrian tycoon and former senior Assad regime official Firas Tlass has reported claims from regime insiders of tensions between Syria’s dictator Bashar al-Assad and his wife Asmaa, which the insiders say are difficult to “patch up.”

Tlass, the son of former Assad regime defence minister Mustafa Tlass, who now lives in exile in Europe, asked in a post on Facebook: “Will the Russians intervene to control things? I don’t know".

Russia quits UN system aimed at protecting hospitals, aid in Syria

Russia has quit a United Nations arrangement that aimed to protect hospitals and humanitarian aid deliveries in Syria from being hit by the warring parties, according to a UN note to aid groups seen on Thursday.

The Russian move comes after an internal UN inquiry in April found it was “highly probable” that the Syrian regime or its allies carried out attacks on three healthcare facilities, a school and a refuge for children in northwest Syria last year.

Iraqi security forces raid Iran-backed militia headquarters - govt sources

Iraqi security forces raided a headquarters belonging to an Iran-backed militia south of Baghdad late on Thursday, seized rockets and detained three leaders of the group at the site, two Iraqi government officials said.

The officials said the militia group targeted was Kataib Hezbollah, an Iran-backed group that U.S. officials have accused of firing rockets at bases hosting U.S. troops and other facilities in Iraq. Kataib Hezbollah is also among the Iranian-backed militias backing Assad in Syria.
